Townes Nova // 4 Months

http://daveandjoi.blogspot.com/2016/02/townes-nova-4-months.html

I am excited though that far, I have only missed one monthhaha. We are going to see how it ends up come.

  • His skin remains super dry [and we really made a special trip back to the physician for a psoriasis flare up all over his body] along with his scalp nevertheless has cradle cap. We have been lathering him up with cortisone per the information of the ped and covering that with vaseline. His skin looks sensitive and gets bumpy and red from the blue. We wash his possessions in Tide clear and free and have not changed anything but his body gets flare ups a great deal.
  • He fits comfortably in 3-6 month clothes and size 2 diapers. While he is away from me when I am at work that he takes roughly 3-6 ounce. Per bottle/twice within an 8 hour period. He’s not a comfort nurser, but we’re out and when he gets tired, he probably will fall asleep! Since we are currently contemplating doing Baby Led Weaning we’re waiting to start him. Whether I’m up for it, I really don’t know, but we will see. I believe, if we decide to get it done, we’re going to wait till the first week of March or so, if Townsie is over 5 weeks.  This kind of conundrum. The ideal word to describe his sleep is that it is always INCONSISTENT. Ipersonally, like a glutton for punishment, track his sleep and wakeup times and they’re all over the area. No patterns.
  • Some nights he has three aftermath ups and a few nights he’s one. Some nights he will sleep 5-7 hours for his stretch along with that he hardly makes it two nights.
  • We’ve started allowing him CIO when placing him down to the evening and he seldom ever even cries. I had been hoping that might help him figure out how to soothe himself back to sleep soundly through the night time but it has done that.   The each 1-2 hour wakeups, although I do not mind waking up, I truly don’t [during the holidays–yay–ugh!] Killed me.
  • Each of the physician’s information, I feed him around 30 minutes before bed so that he goes to sleep properly used to not using a super full tummy. I believe this might be assisting him.
  • I’ve noticed that he’s going down and for longer moves during the nighttime than he used to.
  • He is in a sleeping sofa and utilizes his lovie and palms to attempt to self soothe.  Haha. We didn’t wish to possess him CIO for naps but swaying him and nursing him were customs we didn’t want to maintain [plus–they n’t even worked ]. We appreciate sleeping for him and want him to be able to acquire rest.  He can’t figure out how to get past that first sleep cycle and I am hoping he gets it. At father and my mother in law he appears to have achievement that is much better and longer naps –that I wish I understood the secret!
  • He’s never taken a rest more than 1.5 hours at the infant for me, but has obtained more than 2 hour naps at the packn’ play for my mother in law. Who knows!  To how it is it can literally go from hour to hour. So weird. I’m hoping it gets!
  • In his 4 month appointment that the doctor noticed he had a flat place on the right side of the mind. She was worried because she did see that sort of place on front but more-so on the back. Townes was called by her said she was concerned if his skull sutures were calibrated, he may need surgery. Cue mom freak out.  Less of a freak out was to the Potential helmet. Say what? A helmet? I thought I had done everything’right’ . Obviously I felt accountable. I was hard on myself since I believed I’d made certain he wouldn’t get a level spot by not letting him use the rockn’ play & only let him sleeping in the fold for only AND naps a few weeks! Guilt is so strong.
  • The surgeon was not convinced he had a helmet and had been confident his sutures had not fused. We wouldn’t need the operation [thankfully!] But we did receive a referral for a physical therapist. She assessed him last week, he’ll be going for an undetermined quantity of time, and also will work on adjusting his [or neck muscles that are weak ]. He said he probably developed them at the uterus [which caused me to feel less at fault–I know, ridiculous, however true] and stated that the treatment would help him to flake out and favor his left side as he does his side.
  • The therapist wasn’t convinced he needed the helmet unless we just wanted him to have a perfectly round head. She said the place wouldn’t probably go away per se, but with his mind increase and hair growth it wouldn’t be that noticeable. We chose to forego the helmet especially because it is actually only noticeable if standing on his mind, which likely won’t occur as he ages from appearing down.
  • I do not understand about you. . .but he seems pretty great for me.
  • He adores reaching out for toys of all types and does a silent giggle here and there
  • He eventually has actually uttered his carseat well and doesn’t cry when you place him in it and sometimes even coos during the ride! Success!
  • We’re working hard on tummy time to strengthen those throat muscles and that he actually prefers that to being on his back
  • PARENTING

    • Entire my anxiety has diminished as sleep has gotten better. Townes being joyful during alert time makes me such a happier momma! I love that Dave and I tag-team everything. He’s the best partner, husband, and dad I’ve ever dreamed of getting. The week days fly by and the weekends seem so long–especially being awake with just two little ones. Maintain the days moving and we try to get out so that we keep Theron entertained! When Townes fights with napping [i.e. nearly every weekend!] It is very important to keep us occupied to not live on another nap–haha.
    • I am adoring Townsie in this smiley stage and’m getting very excited for the sitting up unassisted stage and riding in carts point.  Thanks for bringing to our world.

WOW! How to Make Your Own Blue and White Chinoiserie Lamp!

I really think you all might lose your minds over my latest discovery.  Or at least, I did.  But wait, wait, let me backtrack…

As I’ve mentioned before, I (along with everyone else in the design world, it seems!) am in LOVE with the blue and white thing happening.  I’ve been slowly collecting vases and plates and platters of all kinds, mostly from antique shops, Goodwill (if I’m lucky), and some online auction sites like Everything But the House.  My hunting has taught me that the name for many of these pieces is Chinoiserie.

It also seems to me that as soon as you attach the word Chinoiserie (pronounced chi-noi-ser-ie) to anything, it automatically quadruples in price!  Which is why my collecting has been very slow and strategic.  I can’t be giving my husband ulcers over this stuff.  🙂

For awhile now I’ve been searching for a small Chinoiserie lamp to fit a quirky spot in our house.  Until I find the perfect one, I’ve been using a rather ugly little lamp that just irritates me every time I look at it.  Does that ever happen to you?  It’s the perfect size and scale for the space but the more I stare at it, the uglier it gets! Here it is (sorry so blurry but you get the idea):

Then, suddenly…inspiration!  While I’m waiting for the perfect antique yet inexpensive Chinoiserie blue and white lamp to fall into my lap (that happens, right?), why not use a few old and faithful friends to spruce up my existing lamp?

    Mod Podge.

    Scrapbook paper.

    Rub-n-Buff.

    Are you with me?

So first I needed some scrapbook paper or gift wrap in a classic blue and white pattern.  Easy, right? I trekked all over town and all over the internet.  Nothing.  Seriously, I just needed a few sheets of this stuff and I figured the design trend was so hot right now, it’d be a cinch!  Nope.

Finally, I stumbled upon this adorable Chinoiserie pumpkin done by Susan from Between Naps on the Porch.

She made this cutie herself after seeing something similar in Country Living and wrote a fabulous tutorial here.  And you know where she got her scrapbook paper?  A photocopier.  Seriously!

So here’s the part that is just blowing my mind with the possibilities: a good color copier can print any pattern you want (assuming you’re not pirating it of course).  Just take yourself to Kinkos or FedEx or wherever, bring an inspiration piece to be copied, like a flat piece of fabric, pages from a book, or (in my case), email them a PDF of a design you like.  Then here’s the key: have them make a color photocopy using a digital laser printer (not ink jet, which I think is what most of us have in our basements!).  A laser printer will make sure that the pretty colors on your paper won’t run when you start working with the Mod Podge.  Also, I found that a slightly heavier weight paper was more like the weight of scrapbook paper and was great to work with (my FedEx Office guy called it 32 lb. weight).

I was able to find some beautiful digital scrapbook paper from a shop on Etsy (link here if you’d like it for yourself!), and for less than $5 I got an instant download of six .jpg files.  Six gorgeous Chinoiserie prints to choose from!  I converted them to PDFs (although I think it would have been just as easy to print as .jpgs), emailed them to my local shop, hustled myself over to pick them up and within 20 minutes I had these in my hot little hands:

So now back to my lamp.

First I gave it a quick coat of paint so nothing would bleed through.  White paint over the parts to be covered with the paper.  Gold paint for the parts where I was going to put Rub-n-Buff.

Next I applied the Rub-n-Buff (in Grecian Gold) and cut my scrapbook paper to fit.  I glued it on with a few layers of Mod Podge (under the paper and two layers on top).  Then…patience while the whole thing dried.

    Hello lovely!

Let me zoom in just a bit.

Even I, the Queen of Mod Podge, am surprised at how well this turned out!  I hoped for something that would just look better than it did before (not hard to do).  But I really think I’d be drawn to this lamp if I saw it in a shop today, not just because I rescued it from ugly!

Even getting up very close, the colors are crisp and clean.  No bleeding at all.  I’m telling you.  Laser printer.  A revelation.

Who am I kidding?  This discovery doesn’t mark the end of my Chinoiserie hunt.  The thrill of the chase, right? Ha!  But it’s a fun and inexpensive way to copy a look that I know many of us love.

    Have a great weekend!

Kitchen Accessories & Inspiration | Stylish Designs and Dinner Sets

I dream already very long is a large kitchen. This is all the places in the house where I always think of how I would address in which lamps, accessories, and dishes I would like. Though I have a reasonable idea of how it should look , I think still regularly beautiful pictures of kitchens that really inspire me out . This kitchen ( above ) by Studio Ferrania I think certainly very special in terms of design , materials, and accessories . Rural, stylish, yet tight and a little rugged.

Another example which opens my kitchenware is the heart of this wonderful design of West Kensington . It has the little country thing but chiques wherever I like very much in a kitchen.

I love different service styles (apparently inherited from my mother). This service of DAOM I really speaks immediately ! Beautiful colors , nice design , fits into the pastel trend,  and the fun shapes that fit together , you can nicely on your dinnerware table “ decorate ” .

A point where I ’m always critical of enlightenment , I do not find a lamp pretty quickly. This particular chandelier falls cleanly straight to me in the taste. The whole picture , I find beautiful. This lamp is brand BB Interior.

Office Coffee Bar with Fireclay Tile

So my amazing team here at House Seven Design has seen our humble little home office come a long way since our companies early beginnings.

We’ve grown a lot and as a result have gone through a couple of what I like to think of as “awkward teen years” getting to where we want to be. From working out of spare bedrooms, the dining table, to finally our renovated basement converted into our home office– Having a designated work space has always been a priority so we can make the most of our time without the distractions of the rest of the house –(which are plenty when you have three kids and two dogs)

Converting the basement into our office let us establish a home base and bring more of an identity to our office culture. It allowed us to create a designated area for client visits and meetings as well as an intentional storage solution for our sample library.

Teaming up with Fireclay Tile helped to make a particular vision come to fruition that is our beloved coffee bar!

Choosing Fireclay Tile for our backsplash was an easy choice because their products are all stunning and they made the whole process such a breeze! Selecting which tile was the tricky part as the samples we pulled were all just so good.

We love working with Fireclay not only for their quality products, but we firmly support their mission statement of practicing sustainable manufacturing, using recycled materials, and treating their employees with integrity.

When you can so fully get on board with a companies mission and understand the purpose behind their work, it makes it that much more fulfilling to put their products in your home.

The tile we landed on (by popular vote) was the 2×4 handmade tile in “Kelp” (V4) with a light grout.

    You can find them Here!
I love the detailing in the glaze and variation from tile to tile. The green just makes such a fun statement in the mostly monochromatic office. It has become the first thing people compliment when they walk downstairs!

We are so glad to have worked with Fireclay tile and are so happy with the results of our little coffee bar. My team and I definitely have been taking full advantage of this little nook and feel lucky to look back and see how far this space has come in a short while.

    Moving with Pets

It’s hard to believe, but it’s been two weeks since I left behind my cute brick bungalow and moved into my parents’ new house in the suburbs. And by “hard to believe,” I mean it’s been pretty much a chaotic mess.

You know how I told you this was going to be my 15th move? Well, it doesn’t get any easier the 15th time. Just so you guys know. There have been several challenges along the way, some that I expected, others that are new this time. I know a lot of you have been looking for an update, so I thought I would share a few of these road bumps I’ve hit in the past couple of weeks. Today I want to bring up one of the biggest worries I had pre-move, and that is how my dog Petunia would react.

Moving with Pets |  Rental Revival

In the last month or two of living in the bungalow, Tuney was just a barking machine. I mean, she would go ballistic at the slightest inkling of movement outside. My bed was right by a front window, so all day she would just perch on the bed and wait for something to appear. When she got in the “barking zone,” it was nearly impossible to get her out of it. This caused a lot of anxiety and stress for the both of us, and usually resulted in her leaping on my bed in a feverish rush, sliding the bed all over the floor, knocking the blankets everywhere… It was just madness. And it definitely made me cry and worry.

I believe the environment of my old house had a lot to do with it. It was kind of a constant shuffle of people and loud noises and late hours. She probably sensed my anxiety and lack of peace and fed off of it. That was the main reason why I moved out, if I’m being honest.

So when I did move, I was really worried about her. I didn’t know if she would take to accidents in the house, chewing things, separation anxiety, or something worse.

Moving with Pets |  Rental Revival

The good news is, for the most part, Tuney has been adjusting really well to the move. Maybe it’s the more serene environment, the relaxing atmosphere (and no more band practices in my living room), or the woodsy views of the backyard–but she seems a lot. less. neurotic. Tuney has been more obedient here than she ever was in my city house. She stops barking when I ask her to. She sits and stays when I open the door instead of bolting outside. She’s even focusing more and looking to me for approval and guidance.

Moving with Pets |  Rental Revival

It wasn’t easy right away. At first, I could tell she was stressed out. She followed me everywhere, and she wasn’t eating more than maybe a 1/3 cup of food every day. I think she was sensing that things were going to be different from now on, and she didn’t know what to make of it. For the first week of being there, my mom was with me, and was home with Tuney during the day while I was at work. Those few days, when I would return home, Tuney was so overly happy and excited to see me that it seemed like she felt I would never come back!

The only issue we have had so far was the other day when I tried something new with her during my work day. Instead of crating her, I tried to recreate the same atmosphere she used to have in my upstairs bedroom by gating her in the basement during the day. The basement at this new house is huge, and there is a big area rug, walk-out door with a nice view, and a bed for Tuney to sleep in. I tried keeping her down there because I thought maybe she would like the space, but I was also thinking it might be too big… I had a feeling she would find a corner to poop in. I was correct, of course.

So I think she will be crated during my work hours, when no one else is home. Luckily for a month or so my sister will be living with me, and at times my mom and dad will be there too. For now I think we are getting in the swing of things! I have especially loved our twice-daily walks around the neighborhood, when we get to soak up the newly appearing sunshine (it has been a looooong winter here in Cleveland).

Moving with Pets |  Rental Revival

I’m really looking forward to the completion of our back deck, which will include a gate, so I can let her outside on nice days. I’m also excited for grass to be installed in the yard too, because right now it’s a muddy mess! Overall I’m really happy with my new living space, and I think Tuney is too. As always, we will face this new set of challenges together!
