Create Your Dream Closet

Create Your Dream Closet

If your closet looks anything like mine (and I sure hope I’m not alone in this!), it needs some serious re-organizing! It’s funny how just a simple closet can be such a big deal for us. We may not all have a huge walk-in dream closet, but we all can turn our closets into somewhat of a dream closet for ourselves. Here are a few simple ideas.

First of all, create a wish list.  Figure out what isn’t working in your closet, and then write down what you need and want for your new closet.  Look through pictures of closets online, in magazines or newspapers to find features you really love and would work for you.

Next, check out some convenient do-it-yourself closet systems online.  Some companies will offer free design services and free shipping – that’s what you want to find!  You maybe be able to either design your closet yourself, or get free professional design services should you prefer.

Design your closet to be above all, functional.  You should be able to conveniently access your most used/worn items.  Use the top shelves to keep things you don’t use as much.

Don’t let an inch of space go unused!  Make the most of every inch of your closet by filling the full height of the wall with tall storage systems.  Use adjustable shelving and custom hanging rods to fit exactly in your closet.

Design your new closet with an eye to the future.  Your closet should be versatile so that should your needs change (because they eventually always do), it will still be able to accommodate you.   You can simply start with your basic, essential storage features by using hanging rods and shelves, and then in the future you can add to the features.

Personalize your closet to work with your space, lifestyle and very importantly… your budget.  Choose a color and style that blend with the style of your home.  Add some decorative molding to make it look built-in!  Other options could be to have pull-out pant racks, jewelry trays, belt racks, or racks for ties and scarves.

These are just a few suggestions to get you started!  Here’s a video to check out some more closet-organizing tips:
