How to Find a Realtor Who’s Right for You

Perhaps you’ve tried to sell your home for sale by owner, and you’re not getting results. If you’re going to work with a realtor, or real estate agent, it is crucial that you find someone who’s right for you… someone who has your best interests in mind.  That holds true whether you’re buying your home or selling your home.  In fact, if you don’t choose the right agent, it could cost you potentially thousands of dollars at the end of it all.

What about when you want to sell your home. How do you find an agent that you can feel confident is right for you?

Your Real Estate Agent should be working for YOU. He or she will be representing you throughout the whole process. Therefore, it’s essential that, much like you’d interview a prospective employee, you interview several different real estate agents.  You need to make sure that you’re comfortable with the agent and that your best interests, as far as you can tell, will be a priority for them. Among the questions you should ask the agents, you will want to consider these:

  • How long have you been in the real estate business?
  • What are your qualifications?
  • How are you going to market my home?
  • Are you willing to do a CMA (Market Analysis) on my home?
  • How much do you expect me to pay in commission?
  • How many sellers are you currently representing?
  • How many homes have you sold in my neighborhood?
  • What separates you from other real estate agents?
  • Will you allow me to review copies of documents I will sign ahead of time?
  • What professionals do you refer your clients to and why?
  • Can you provide me with references?
  • How do you get your business?

No doubt you’ll want to find an agent who will be honest and trustworthy. Someone who you can be confident will have good communication skills with you throughout the process (not someone you have to spend your energy trying to get a hold of… never being able to reach him/her).  Your agent should be experienced, informed, and of course… he/she should definitely be good at negotiating.

After all is said and done, you will be happy you took the time to interview agents to find the right one for you.

If this is a little too much for you or sounds a bit too overwhelming, you’re more than welcome to contact us.
